Project Profile: Roof Replacement with Owens Corning Shingles

Newly installed Owens Corning shingles on a residential rooftop in Goodlettsville, completed by Xtreme Exteriors

At Xtreme Exteriors, we believe doing the right thing for homeowners matters just as much as the work itself. This roof replacement project is a great example of how proper guidance and attention to detail can make all the difference. The project was completed using Owens Corning shingles in Estate Gray, offering the homeowner a durable, attractive roof built to last.

How the Homeowner Found Us

This client had never worked with Xtreme Exteriors before, but they knew of us through a long-standing personal connection. One of our team members went to high school with the owners, and that trust was the starting point for this job. Even in a small town where people talk, we don’t rely on reputation alone—we earn it with every project by doing things the right way.

The Scope of the Project

he project was an insurance-based roof replacement along with some gutter repairs. After a storm caused damage, the homeowner filed an insurance claim. We were brought in to assess the situation, provide a professional estimate, and handle the replacement.

Brandon Pitt, our project manager, oversaw the job from start to finish, while James Ferrell worked alongside him to make sure everything stayed on schedule and met our quality standards.

Materials Used

Owens Corning Oakridge shingles are known for their durability, wind resistance, and classic look. The Estate Gray color gave the home a fresh, updated appearance while maintaining a neutral tone that blends well in most neighborhoods.

What Made This Project Unique?

At first glance, this job seemed like a straightforward roof replacement. But during the inspection, we discovered something the insurance adjuster missed: the home had two layers of roofing, not just one. This was important because removing a double layer of shingles takes more time, labor, and disposal costs than removing a single layer.

We worked with the insurance company to supplement the claim, ensuring the homeowner was properly compensated for the extra work required. Without that discovery and our follow-up, the homeowner would have had to cover those costs out of pocket.

This situation highlights why a thorough inspection matters. We take our time to do it right and make sure our clients get everything they’re entitled to from their insurance company.

Challenges and Solutions

The biggest challenge was handling the double-layer shingle removal on one side of the home. While not uncommon in older homes, extra care is required to avoid damaging the roof deck and to ensure proper installation of the new shingles.

Our team removed both layers safely and inspected the decking underneath before starting the replacement. We made sure the roof was prepped correctly so the new Owens Corning shingles would perform as intended.

Doing Right by the Homeowner

One of the things that made this project meaningful was the relationship. While we had a connection through a long-standing relationship, our approach was the same as it is on every job—be honest, be thorough, and do what’s best for the homeowner.

We aren’t pushy salespeople. We focus on education and trust. The homeowner appreciated knowing they were in good hands, with people who cared about their property and their investment.

The End Result

The completed roof gave the home a clean, sharp look thanks to the Estate Gray shingles. The gutters were also repaired to ensure proper water drainage. The homeowner now has peace of mind knowing their roof is solid, secure, and built to handle future storms.
