Meet Erick Hernandez, a Key Part of Our Kansas City Siding Contractor Team

In today’s post, we’re sharing more about Erick Hernandez, a Residential Project Manager at our Shawnee location who’s helped us further our mission to be the top siding contractor serving Kansas City.
Let’s get to know Erick!
From Painting to Home Exteriors
Erick began his career in painting, starting out as a painter back in 2017. According to Erick, “I started with my friend and his dad, then started at this big painting company doing commercial, then switched to residential.” As a residential painter, he enjoyed learning more about the trade and related industries like construction, which piqued his interest.
Later in his time as a painter, he took a side job, which turned out to be Shawnee Commercial Business Development Manager Kirk Calhoon’s house. “Shortly after Kirk offered me a job here at XE as a foreman,” said Erick. “I took the opportunity to learn something new and I’ve been here ever since.”
Playing a Key Role as a Kansas City Siding Contractor
After starting at Xtreme Exteriors in 2020 as a foreman, Erick quickly showed his aptitude and earned a promotion to his current role as Residential Project Manager. His previous leadership experience in painting helped him there. “I got the opportunity to learn a lot and become a lead at the company I was with,” he said.
Originally from Kansas City, Erick is valuable as a local siding contractor, with in-depth knowledge of the areas we serve from our Shawnee location.
As project manager, Erick has many responsibilities, including management of schedules and workers, ordering materials, and communicating with clients on the status of their projects. Sometimes, those responsibilities can become challenging. “Whenever we get really busy it becomes a bit harder for me to manage my time, since I have to check in on all of our jobs and get materials delivered or get guys items they need.”
But Erick has consistently risen to the challenge and demonstrated an impressive ability to prioritize even at our busiest times.
Erick enjoys his responsibilities and the chance to continue learning on the job. “I enjoy working with my coworkers, learning new things every day. I really enjoy seeing how a job changes from when we got it to how we leave it, and seeing the customers happy with us after.”
Growing and Learning with the XE Family
When Erick first interviewed with Xtreme Exteriors, he quickly felt this was the right fit for him. “When I had my interview with Kirk, I really liked how XE was a family-owned business and all the opportunities for growth and learning new things.”
For Erick, learning is always a goal, whether it’s gaining experience in new positions, learning about new lines of products we use as a leading Kansas City siding contractor, or meeting new people—from customers to employees. “Overall I want to be better every day,” said Erick.
Finding Time to Unwind
At work Erick has many responsibilities, but when he isn’t working he finds various ways to relax and recharge. “I really like to play video games, I like to cook, and watch sports,” said Erick. Overall, his favorite sports teams are the Kansas City Chiefs and the Yankees.
Our People Make Us Better
Over the last few years, Erick has grown a lot, learned a lot, and helped our Shawnee team rank as a top siding contractor in Kansas City. We’re proud to be the local experts in James Hardie siding, and we’re excited to see where future years take us and the incredible people on our team.
