Our Nixa Team Completed a Full Siding Replacement on a Historic Home
A siding replacement can completely transform a home. However, it’s often important that the new siding stays true to the original character of the building, especially for historical homes built decades or longer ago. As the Midwest’s leading siding installers, our team at Xtreme Exteriors is always up to the task of merging old charm with new siding.
In today’s Project Spotlight, we’re highlighting a historical siding replacement our Nixa team completed in Bakersfield, MO. This beautiful home was built more than a century ago, and our team was delighted to have the opportunity to help restore its original beauty. Let’s take a look at this project!
Background and Client: A Historic Home in Bakersfield
Our client for this project was a homeowner located in Bakersfield, southeast of our Nixa, MO location. A real estate agent themselves, this client was enraptured by this historic home when they first bought it. We can’t blame them, either; this home was first built in 1887, more than a century ago! Originally serving as a medical office, much of that 19th century charm remains.
As a brand-new client, they first reached out for an estimate, then chose XE as the top James Hardie installers in the region.
The Project: A Full Siding Replacement
This project was straightforward on the surface: it was to be a full siding replacement, completely removing the old siding and installing a new system in its place. Our client wanted to ensure they would get a long-term solution, so they had strong interest in James Hardie fiber cement siding.
As part of the siding replacement, our team would need to install a full system including fascia, insulation, new window wraps, and a new plywood substrate.
The Challenge: Joining the Old and New
As readers may expect, it was vitally important to this homeowner that the siding replacement maintain the historical integrity of this building. This would mean installing new siding over the much older materials that made up the framework of this home. This can sometimes be a challenge, as original building products from the 19th century are typically much harder to nail into.
In addition, our client hoped to retain the original character of the home and install siding in a style that would suit this building’s history. They were hoping our team could provide input, recommending styles and colors that would match the home’s historic architecture while rejuvenating its appearance with vibrant new siding.
The Result: A Beautiful Union in Boothbay Blue
Our team at Xtreme Exteriors got to work on this project, and one of our first steps was to work with the homeowner to choose the perfect siding. We downloaded photos into a visualizer program and made a few mockups to show the homeowners different colors and style options that would suit the home.
Ultimately, they selected HardiePlank lap siding in Boothbay Blue, a color and traditional style that matched the home’s character. We also installed black aluminum fascia and black metal window wraps, along with new insulation and plywood substrate for the siding.
While older buildings can be a challenge to nail into, this was nothing our team hadn’t encountered before. Our expert siding installers completed some needed internal framing before installing the new substrate and insulation.
We think readers will agree: the result is picture perfect, and we’re delighted to say that breathtaking blue will last a long time to come!
